Teeth cleaning is a fundamental preventive dental service that removes plaque, tartar, and stains from your teeth to maintain optimal oral health and prevent disease. Regular professional cleaning is essential because even the most diligent home care cannot remove hardened tartar that forms along the gum line and between teeth.
At Diamond Dental, we understand that teeth cleaning is more than just a routine procedure – it’s the foundation of lifelong oral health. Our comprehensive approach combines thorough cleaning with patient education, helping you understand your oral health status and how to maintain it between visits.
Whether you’re maintaining healthy teeth, addressing early signs of gum disease, or getting back on track with your oral health, professional teeth cleaning provides the deep clean your mouth needs while allowing us to detect potential problems early when they’re easier to treat.
Even with excellent home care, plaque and bacteria continuously form on your teeth throughout the day. Over time, this soft plaque hardens into tartar (calculus) that can only be removed with professional dental instruments during a teeth cleaning appointment. Left untreated, this buildup leads to gum inflammation, cavities, and more serious dental problems.
Professional teeth cleaning reaches areas that regular brushing and flossing cannot adequately clean, including below the gum line and between closely spaced teeth. This thorough cleaning helps prevent gingivitis, the early stage of gum disease, and reduces your risk of developing more serious periodontal problems that can affect your overall health.
Regular teeth cleaning appointments also provide an opportunity for early detection of dental problems. Many issues, including cavities, gum disease, and oral cancer, can be identified during routine cleaning visits when they’re easier and less expensive to treat than if discovered later.
Professional teeth cleaning removes stains and discoloration that develop from coffee, tea, wine, and other foods, helping restore your smile’s natural brightness. The polishing step of the cleaning process leaves teeth smooth and clean, making it harder for new plaque and stains to accumulate between visits.
Beyond cosmetic benefits, regular teeth cleaning significantly reduces your risk of cavities and gum disease by removing the bacterial buildup that causes these problems. Many patients notice fresher breath and a cleaner feeling in their mouth that lasts for weeks after their professional cleaning appointment.
Studies have shown links between oral health and overall health conditions including heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. Regular teeth cleaning helps maintain good oral health, which may contribute to better overall health outcomes and can help you avoid more complex and expensive dental treatments in the future.
Dr. Barry Diamond earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Maryland and completed their Advanced Education in General Dentistry program, which provided comprehensive training in preventive care and advanced cleaning techniques. This additional education enables effective management of complex cases and personalized preventive strategies.
Our practice utilizes the iTero Element 5D scanner for detailed diagnostic imaging that helps identify areas needing special attention during cleaning appointments. Dr. Diamond has been featured on PBS Forum 360 discussing how digital dentistry innovations improve patient outcomes and preventive care effectiveness.
The philosophy at Diamond Dental emphasizes honest communication about your oral health status and cleaning needs. We take time to explain what we find during your cleaning, why specific techniques or frequencies might be recommended, and how you can maintain the benefits of professional cleaning through effective home care.
Your teeth cleaning appointment begins with a comprehensive examination of your teeth and gums, including digital imaging when necessary to assess areas not visible during clinical examination. We review any changes since your last visit, discuss concerns you may have noticed, and evaluate your current oral hygiene routine.
The cleaning process involves removing plaque and tartar from all tooth surfaces using specialized instruments, including areas below the gum line where bacteria often accumulate. We use both hand instruments and ultrasonic technology to ensure thorough removal while maintaining your comfort throughout the procedure.
After scaling and root planing when needed, we polish your teeth to remove surface stains and create a smooth surface that resists new plaque formation. Before you leave, we provide personalized recommendations for home care and schedule your next cleaning based on your individual oral health needs and risk factors.

This is the BEST dental practice in the entire Northeast, Ohio. I cannot STRESS how amazing this practice. I pay out of pocket and I will GLADY spend my money here. This is not my neighborhood dentist - I drive about 20 minutes to be a patient here. 1. I came to this practice after not having dental care for a few years after having my son. I like to tell this story because life happens and I know someone else may be in a similar situation. I was VERY anxious about finally getting my dental health back in order. 2. From the FIRST visit, Dr. Diamond made me feel SO comfortable. I thought I had ruined my teeth but they were not as bad. He was VERY encouraging and explained to me how I would get my dental health back on track. Dr. Diamond is just the sweetest soul. He REALLY cares about his patients. I am so blessed to have him as my dentist. He really gives you options when it comes to your dental health and let's you do what you are comfortable with. I prefer to get my deep cleanings by quadrant and he has kept it that way. 3. Sarah the Hygienist. She has made a life changing impact on the way I view dental care. This is the first time in my life that I am excited going to the dental office and getting a deep cleaning/perio cleaning. Sarah is so sweet and it is like going to see close family. By the time we are done catching up, the deep cleaning is done. She has also given me really good advice on getting my teeth where I want them; both health vise and visually. 4. I have some sensory sensitivities when it comes to the sound of the electronic dental tools and I left my AirPods in my car for this visit. Dr. Diamond literally brought out bluetooth noise cancelling headphones. Like, come on! 5. My son who is almost 6 years old also moved over to this practice and loves it here. Everyone is so friendly and Dr. Diamond always tells him how good his teeth look as he has no cavities (very encouraging for him). I do not gain anything from writing this review. If you really want QUALITY dental care, this is the dental office where you need to establish care.Posted on Caitlin KrapfTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I’ve been coming here for the past month for two crowns and a filling, and honestly this place is on another level. From the front desk to the chair, everything is smooth. The receptionist always greets me with a smile and makes check-in quick and easy. And Dr. Barry? Man, he’s the LeBron James of molars. Precise, confident, and makes you feel like you’re in championship hands every visit. Never rushed, explains everything, and the work is solid — I walked out of every appointment feeling taken care of. If you want a dentist who actually cares and a team that makes you feel comfortable, this is it. Most patients benefit from professional teeth cleaning every six months, but the ideal frequency depends on your individual oral health status and risk factors. Some patients with higher risk for gum disease or heavy tartar buildup may need cleanings every three to four months, while others with excellent oral health may do well with longer intervals.
During your cleaning appointment, you can expect a thorough examination followed by careful removal of plaque and tartar from all tooth surfaces. The cleaning includes scaling to remove buildup, polishing to remove stains and smooth tooth surfaces, and education about maintaining your oral health between visits.
Professional teeth cleaning uses specialized instruments including ultrasonic scalers that vibrate to break up tartar, hand instruments for precise removal in tight spaces, and polishing tools with special paste to smooth and brighten your teeth. Each tool serves a specific purpose in achieving a thorough cleaning.
